These Urban Dictionary Definitions Of UK Cities Are Hilariously Offensive

Share

Warning – this article contains extreme bias and unsavoury opinions that may or may not be accurate about your place of birth.

While inhabitants of each city will proudly proclaim their hometown as the best in all the land, visitors of said cities often have a different opinion.

Urban Dictionary is the perfect place to discover the good, the bad, the ugly, and the downright hilarious ways that people have described some of the UK’s cities. It’s always entertaining to see what people have to say about different places when they’re influenced by football rivalries, hometown pride, or perhaps just a general (and strong) dislike of a particular location.

Here are some of the best Urban Dictionary definitions of places in the UK.

Bristol

Bristol

Out of date football reference aside, Bristol has always considered itself as one of the cool kids.

Newcastle

newcastle

I would dispute that the “charver / charva” pubs are the ones to avoid. Three trebles for £6? Yes please.

Manchester

manchester

It’s our kid, remember!

Leeds

Leeds

…Presumably written by someone in Leeds.

Liverpool

Liverpool

Scouses have never had the best rep.

Edinburgh

edinburgh

Just like London but smaller and sh*tter.

Durham

durham

Unsurprisingly, one of the first things that pops up about Durham concerns its rather posh, rather twee university.

Sunderland

Sunderland

I can confirm that Sunderland is one of the most depressing places I have been to date.

Glasgow

glasgow

At least Glaswegians are game for a laugh.

Norwich

Norwich

Never the top of anybody’s ‘to visit’ list.

Belfast

Belfast

Pretty much sums it up.

Hull

Hull

Avoid Hull at all costs.

Southampton

Southampton

Nice to see a bit of healthy southern rivalry.

Cardiff

cardiff

Perhaps the surprisingly ideal location for a stag do.

Birmingham

birmingham

Apparently not the most fragrant of cities.

Swansea

swansea

It may be time for those in Swansea to get a new hair style.

York

York

Revelation: York minus students and tourists may actually be semi-decent.

Exeter

exeter

I can only imagine what this person must have experienced in Exeter to come up with such a disgusted description of it.

London

london

A common response when you tell a Londoner you’re from somewhere other than there.

Nottingham

Nottingham

While it’s neither northern nor southern, Nottingham does have rather a rep for gun crime, thus leading it to be fondly known as Shottingham.

Sheffield

sheffield

I completely disagree with this. However, there were no other Urban Dictionary definitions for Sheffield perhaps proving how irrelevant it really is.
