Pepper X Set To Become World's Hottest Pepper With A Rating Higher Than Tear Gas
Some foods are so hot that I refuse to believe anyone derives any genuine pleasure from eating them.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but I simply can’t see the enjoyment in eating something that makes you sweat profusely, causes your mouth, tongue and lips to numb, and generally makes your face burn like you’ve just been involved in a bukkake scene with Satan himself.
To be honest, I think eating ridiculously spicy food has more to do with blokes expressing their laddishness and machismo than anything else, as mates try to stake their claim as the Alpha male of the group by stomaching something that’s blazing hot.
Well, you can stuff your top dog status because mine’s a Korma, thank you very much.
Clearly, they’ve got the wrong person to write this article, because there is absolutely no chance in hell I would even contemplate trying the world’s hottest pepper.
Until recently, that title belonged to the Carolina Reaper, but now there’s a new sheriff in town, and its name is Pepper X.
(The name alone makes it sound evil – ‘X’ makes it seem like the latest in a series of science experiments geared towards developing a mutant pepper.)
Pepper X is set to make it to the top of the Guinness World Records for the spiciest pepper with a terrifying 3.18 million on the Scoville scale, which measures units of heat usually found in chillies and peppers.
To put that into context, Jalapenos are a cool 10,000 to 20,000 Scoville units in comparison, with tear gas, yep, tear gas, coming in at around 500,000 Scovilles. The previous hottest peppers measure around 1.4 million to 2.2 million Scovilles.
Pepper X been in the works for nearly 10 years, and is the brainchild of ‘Smoking’ Ed Currie, who is the proprietor of PuckerButt Pepper Company who also created the notoriously hot Carolina Reaper pepper.
Pepper X can only be found inside a bottle of The Last Dab, a sauce that is featured on First We Feast’s YouTube series.
The show sees various celebrities attempt to eat a load of wings with a progressively hotter sauce whilst being interviewed until they can no longer answer any questions as their whole face is on fire.
The Last Dab sauce, featuring Pepper X, is the last sauce they have to take on.
The hot sauce is described as:
‘More than simple mouth burn, Pepper X singes your soul. Starting with a pleasant burn in the mouth, the heat passes quickly, lulling you into a false confidence.
‘You take another bite, enjoying the mustard and spice flavors. This would be great on jerk chicken, or Indian food! But then, WHAM! All of a sudden your skin goes cold and your stomach goes hot, and you realize the power of X.’
Currie announced the new pepper at Chelsea Market in New York during a filming of a First We Feast episode.
He revealed: ‘Pepper X is three times hotter than any other peppers that are out there available commercially.’
He also explained that he expects to hear back from Guinness World Records in November as to whether it is in fact the world’s hottest pepper.
If you’re feeling brave, or you have a death wish, you can order a bottle of the sauce here.
I think I’ll probably leave it, though.
