It Turns Out That Daenerys Was Taking A Huge Risk In This 'Game Of Thrones' Scene

This article contains spoilers from Game of Thrones. If you still haven’t finished watching the seventh season, then go away…

The seventh season of Game of Thrones brought all our favourites together.

Brienne and the Hound were reunited, the Starks finally got back together and – crucially – Jon and Daenerys met for the first time.

Ice and fire, the dragon and the wolf. It was a moment that fans had been waiting for, and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

The sexual tension was palpable, and after a couple of episodes bickering (“bend the knee”, “absolutely not”, “oh go on then”), they got it on in the season finale.

Forget for a second that they’re aunt and nephew, and you’ve got yourself one hell of a love story.

Things could, however, have taken quite a different turn.

Looking back over the most iconic scenes of season seven, showrunner D.B. Weiss brought up – naturally – the moment that Jon and Drogon (the dragon) came face to face.

While Drogon took well to Jon (most likely because he’s a secret Targaryen), Weiss revealed that Daenerys was actually only “about 85% sure” that her dragon wasn’t going to eat poor old Snow.

They’re pretty good odds, but in a land so bloodthirsty as Westeros, you’d rather get that number a little higher…

Weiss explains:

“She doesn’t want to see her dragon eat him, but she does want to see him sweat a little bit…”

I mean, whatever gets you going Khaleesi…

We’re glad that it didn’t happen, but you have to accept it – if that scene had ended with Drogon gobbling up Jon Snow, it would have been a twist that nobody saw coming.

Now that they’re both secret relatives and lovers, maybe Daenerys will be less cavalier with Jon’s life.
