This New, Big Budget TV Series Might Just Be The New 'Game Of Thrones'
Just as ‘Game of Thrones’ wrapped up its seventh season, Sky Atlantic swooped in with a suave alternative to fill the gaping Jon Snow -shaped holes in our hearts …
Talk about perfect timing.
The upcoming series goes by the name of ‘Brittania‘ and will be first Sky drama to focus on the previously uncharted territory of Celtic mythology.
Judging by the trailer, the series, much like Game of Thrones, will incorporate elements of fantasy into the plot, as well as themes of severe violence.
Set in 43AD, Brittania will tell the story of three tribes – the Druids, the Celts and the Romans – who are battling for control of Britannia.
Mackenzie Crook, who played a wildling with warging capabilities in Game of Thrones, will star in the series, and he’ll look completely unrecognisable in his costume – which sees him donning facial prosthetics for a major supernatural transformation.
Alongside Crook, the cast consists of some other impressive names. From Kelly Reilly (True Detective) and David Morrissey (The Walking Dead) to Zoë Wanamaker (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone).
Brittania has also been written by Jez Butterworth, the genius behind the 2015 James Bond flick Spectre, so fans can definitely expect some high quality storytelling, filled with chilling twists and turns to keep you gripped for each episode.
And if that isn’t enough to lure you,we should also point out that, much like Game of Thrones, the series will also rely on the slick kind of cinematography that makes a show look more like a high-budget feature film from Hollywood.
In other words, your eyes are in for one hell of a visual feast.
Check out the gripping trailer down below:
Unfortunately, Brittania won’t be hitting our screens until 2018, but in comparison to the two years we might have to wait for the final season of Game of Thrones, it truly doesn’t seem that bad.
So, if you’re a big fan of witches exchanging breath, scores of soldiers battling out in army ships, brutal blood sacrifices and severed body parts being used for magical rituals – this upcoming series could possibly be right up your street.
And who knows? Perhaps a dragon might even pop up in one of the episodes …
