'Game Of Thrones' Couple Kit Harington And Rose Leslie Are Actually Related

Fans of ‘Game Of Thrones’ might be weirdly supportive of Jon Snow’s current romance with his aunt, but they still love the one he had with Ygritte. They’re seriously celebrating the fact that the actors who play that first couple are now getting married in real life.

We can love and appreciate Jonerys and still enjoy Jogritte, alright?

Jon and Ygritte may no longer be together, but yes, it was announced recently that the couple are engaged to marry in real life. Despite playing northerners on the show, the pair are actually both quite shockingly posh – which was demonstrated in their choice of engagement announcement. It was done in The Times, of course.

The pair have already moved in to a pretty sweet and expensive British pad together, and after waiting some time to get settled, Kit popped the question.

That’s not the shocking part, the shocking part comes after a fan discovered that the pair are actually related. Albeit very distantly. While trawling through Wikipedia, like we all do occasionally, someone realised that they are both descendants of King Charles II.

This is hilarious for several reasons; firstly because Kit/Jon is unknowingly dating his aunt in the TV show, and secondly because the posh mock-Northerners just happen to actually be related to actual royalty. Obviously.

Fans love it.

King Charles II, who reigned between 1630 and 1685 is Harrington’s eight-great-grandfather, and Leslie’s mother is the maternal great-granddaughter of Simon Fraser, who is also descended from Charles. The engaged pair are hardly aunt and nephew, but we’re still highly amused.

Both now 30, the pair confirmed they were an item back in 2016 after meeting on the set in 2012. Under the names Mr KC (Kit Catesby) Harington and Miss RE (Rose Eleanor) Leslie, their Times engagement notice read: “The engagement is announced between Kit, younger son of David and Deborah Harington of Worcestershire, and Rose, middle daughter of Sebastian and Candy Leslie of Aberdeenshire.”

Ooh, fancy.

Harington told L’Uomo Vogue  it was “easy” to fall in love with Leslie, admitting his best ever memory of the show were the three weeks in Iceland when they filmed the second season in 2012. He said:

“Because the country is beautiful, because the Northern Lights are magical, and because it was there that I fell in love. If you’re already attracted to someone, and then they play your love interest in the show, it becomes very easy to fall in love.”

How sweet.
