People Can't Get Through The First Episode Of New Horror TV Show 'The Sinner'

Jessica Biel (The Illusionist, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) has returned to the small screen in what many have already hailed as a masterpiece. Ominously titled ‘The Sinner‘, the eight-episode TV drama premiered in the US just a couple days ago and people still can’t get over how shocking the story is.

According to Twitter, it appears that this show definitely isn’t for the faint-hearted. Some people tweeted that they couldn’t even make it through the first episode …

So what is all the fuss about?

Well, straying from her previous cluster of glamorous roles, in this show, Jessica Biel takes on the character of Cora Tannetti. Cora is a young mother who suffers from depression and lives a seemingly normal life with her husband, Mason, played by Christopher Abbott (Girls, It Comes At Night).

However, everything changes when, out of the blue, Cora stabs a man to death right in front of his wife and son, whilst she’s out with her family on the beach.

From the first episode, it is learned that Cora does not have any relation to this man, which makes the act even more mysterious. Why did she kill him? What provoked her? How does a normal mother suddenly just snap and decide to kill a man in front of his family – in the middle of the beach?

All eight episodes of the series will be dedicated to answering those questions. Hollywood veteran, Bill Pullman (You may know him from Independence Day or While You Were Sleeping, but he also also played Christina Ricci’s dad in Casper back in 1995) will be playing Harry Ambrose, the detective who eventually becomes hell-bent on uncovering the mysterious events that led to Cora’s sudden violence.

Based on a best-selling German novel by Petra Hammesfahr, the show has been described by Biel as “dark“. Whilst speaking to Marie Claire, the 35-year-old actress also confessed that channelling Cora’s murderous nature was an arduous task and said that “It gets weird really fast.”

The Sinner‘ currently airs on USA Network. Unfortunately, there is no word on whether it will broadcast in the UK just yet.
