This New David Fincher Netflix Series 'Mindhunter' Looks Like The New 'Hannibal'
Starring Anna Torv (Fringe), Jonathan Groff (Glee, Looking) and Holt McCallany (Sully, Gangster Squad), this upcoming Netflix series will focus on two FBI detectives in the Elite Serial Crime unit who track down murderers and rapists.
The series, based on the book Mind Hunter: Inside FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit by Mark Olshaker and John E. Douglas, will be hitting Netflix on October 13th (just in time for Halloween!), and, despite not having aired yet, has already secured itself a second series.
David Fincher is the mastermind behind iconic films such as Fight Club, Zodiac, Gone Girl and The Social Network, so, as he will be lending his directorial hand to the pilot episode of this series, we should expect it to carry the same sombre tone and aesthetic as his previous works.
Atomic Blonde actress, Charlize Theron, has also signed on as an executive producer for the show.
So what is it about?
Set in 1979, the show will follow the characters of Holden Ford and Bill Tench, two FBI agents who decide to make a career out of delving into the psychological motivations behind the actions of serial killers and rapists in America. In an attempt to prevent future crimes from occurring (Minority Report, anyone?) Ford and Tench interview and analyse the psyches of serial killers in a bid to understand how they think.
“How do we get ahead of crazy if we don’t know how crazy thinks?” Tench says in the trailer, which depicts the two of them facing severe backlash from their co-workers, who think that they may be internalising some of the murderous behaviours that they’re spending so much of their time analysing.
