Have Hipsters Gone Too Far With This New "Soup Bowl" Trend?
Call me old fashioned, but I believe that meals should be eaten out of practical tableware. Now I know that burgers on wooden boards and jam jar cocktails have that Instagram-worthy appeal, but I’m a firm supporter that practicality should not be sacrificed for aesthetics, especially when it comes to something as fulfilling as food.
However, apparently jam jar cocktails were not enough for the hipster community. The most recent ridiculous trend in culinary presentation appears to be eating soup out of jam jars. Who knew that jam jars would become such a fashionable, and diverse, accessory.
Soup. In a fucking jam jar. Ridiculous. Bowls have worked so well for centuries. pic.twitter.com/as9hpTZikZ

While Instagram fiends may stand by this bizarre, and oh-so-trendy, way of eating soup, Twitter users appear to see the hilarity in the presentation.
Yes the soup in a jam jar is strange, but what I feel is perhaps equally, if not more, offensive, is the fact that the soup has been served with one measly and slightly anaemic piece of baguette. Plus the burgundy napkin positioned under the jar seems more ‘cheap Italian restaurant’ than ‘cutting edge food experience’. If you’re going to strive for the whole Cool-Food-For-Cool-People vibe then you better be willing to commit to every aspect of the meal. Style over substance yet again…
