Idris Elba To Take On 'The Dark Tower' Spin-Off TV Series
2017 is shaping up to be a fine year for Idris Elba, and we are not complaining.
Not only will Idris be starring alongside Kate Winslet in an upcoming romance drama titled ‘The Mountain Between Us‘, he will also be returning as Heimdall in ‘Thor: Ragnarok‘. On top of all this, Idris will play the Gunslinger in a sweeping adaptation of Stephen King’s novel ‘The Dark Tower‘, which hits theatres early next month.
Whilst fans have had mixed reviews to the news of Idris Elba’s role in the film, they might delight at the news of a spin-off TV Show, which he will also make an appearance in. The show will focus on fourth book in the Dark Tower series, titled ‘Wizard and Glass‘.
In the series, Roland Deschain will be much younger (about 14-years-old) which means that a younger actor will be required to take on the role. The story will explore his journey to becoming the Gunslinger, as well as Jake Chambers (played by 15-year-old Tom Taylor in the upcoming film).
In the novel, young Roland also falls in love with another character, which means that this element of the tale could also be incorporated into the show. Idris Elba has signed on to play the older Roland.
MRC and Sony Pictures will be at the helm of the series, and are also both releasing the film. Already set to consist of 10 to 13 episodes, the show will begin shooting this year with plans to premiere in 2018, when the film becomes available on streaming services.
No distributor has been found for the series just yet, but MRC have connections to Netflix due to their work on ‘House of Cards‘, which means that this may be the likely choice, if streaming services are to be considered.
