The Most Erotic Sex Scenes Of All Time

Share

Most sex scenes in films tend to be a bit ridiculous. Legs flailing, hair pulling, actors screeching – they’re hardly ever enjoyable to watch.

Good sex scenes only come around so often, but when they do, they tend to resonate. These scenes are often executed so perfectly that you, as the viewer, may even have to shift in your seat a couple times, or clear your throat and try your best not to think of your own experiences.

Since these kind of sex scenes are just so rare to find, we’ve decided to gather up a bunch that we feel are truly erotic, because why not? Look below and check if you’ve seen any of them (and if you haven’t – you totally should):

Secretary (2002)

Whilst this film has its fair share of insanely good sex scenes, the most erotic one that comes to mind is the one after Lee and Mr. Grey’s marriage. Never ones to stick the status quo, they decide to commemorate their union by having a brutal body-slamming session in the middle of the woods – as you do. With Maggie Gyllenhaal strapped against up against a tree, James Spader is given full liberty to release his inner dominant, as he slams her with as much fervency as an animal. Modern love, eh? This takes the idea of being one with nature to a whole other level.

The Handmaiden (2016)

This South-Korean flick from the director of Old Boy was all the rage last year (to be fair, it still is) and it really isn’t that difficult to see why. In a slick, hyper-sexual adaptation of Sarah Waters’ best-selling novel – Fingersmith – this story focuses on an heiress, her handmaid and the men who dabble between. Let’s be (Lesbi) honest though, we all know that the film is really about the two female leads, who develop an intense love for each other throughout the film. In one insanely spine-tingling scene, the handmaid decides to teach her heiress about sex, and, of course, they both end up reaching an orgasm as they explore each other’s bodies. Well, that’s definitely one way to learn.

A History Of Violence (2005)

In this (completely underrated) film, an assassin moves to a quiet part of town and assumes a brand new identity, starting his life over with his new family. However, when his old buddies discover his new life, things get thrown into chaos, as his family slowly discover that he’s actually a professionally-trained killer. In a scene that completely redefines the meaning of ‘angry sex’, the killer’s wife reacts after discovering the truth about him. In a fit of anger, she tries to get away, but, he won’t let her. After years spent suppressing his murderous nature, the husband bursts out of his shell, embodying his violent past in a quick but intense staircase session with his wife. It’s brutal, it’s intense and it’s definitely angry, but most of all, it’s hot AF.

Lust, Caution (2007)

Lust, Caution is a Chinese film about a young actress who goes undercover into the life of a powerful politician. She’s tasked with finding out information about him, but things get dangerous when he takes her as his mistress. Soon, she finds herself developing mixed feelings for him, as their steamy sessions in the bedroom begin to change her heart. In one scene, the young spy and the politician go at it in what some might say is the strangest sex position they’ve ever seen. Legs draped over each other’s shoulders whilst lying on the bed, the two of them engage in an intense (and sweaty) session whilst literally entwined. Lovely.

The To Do List (2013)

In this glorious comedy, Aubrey Plaza goes on the ultimate hunt for an orgasm. Starting off as a virgin, she makes a long list of sexual acts that she wants to conquer before heading off to college, and ticks them off one by one after judging whether she likes them or not. After months of trials and errors, eventually she finds her calling by the end of the film. In a wild session with an ex from high school, she finally manages to find her G Spot, and, to her surprise, it’s through her backdoor (unfortunately, her dad walks in whilst she’s reaching her climax, but hey, you can’t have it all in this world, eh?)

Blue Is The Warmest Colour (2013)

The six-minute sex scene shared between Adèle Exarchopoulos and Léa Seydoux in this film legit broke the internet upon this film’s release. After the two main characters finally admit their feelings for each other, the intercourse that follows is a spine-tingling experience for them (and the viewers too). The two of them explore each other in an exceedingly sensual manner, and the scene focuses mainly on the emotions produced, rather than the sexiness of it all. However, it is this attention to details of intimacy that makes the scene so good. We totally understand why it broke the internet.

The Notebook (2004)

Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams were flawless as Noah and Allie in this film, portraying a love story spanning an entire lifetime. After years spent apart from each other, they come together in an intense reunion, that gets its beginning in the midst of a rainstorm. (Hot or what?) With those iconic lines from Ryan Gosling (It wasn’t over. It still isn’t over), the two of them jump into each other’s arms and take their reunion inside. From Ryan’s slow stripping to the gruff banging on the bed, the whole scene is alive with intensity. Also, judging from Ryan’s sweaty aftermath, we can tell that he definitely put in the work for Allie. Distance makes the heart (and other parts) grow fonder, guys!

Atonement (2007)

It’s sex in a library! Actual sex in an actual library! Need we say more? Cecelia and Robbie (played by Keira Knightley and James McAvoy) throw in the towel and give into their desires after months spent in denial of their feelings for one another. She is a daughter of a rich family whilst he is slightly worse off, but the two of them can’t suppress their attraction for one another – especially after Robbie accidentally sends her a letter detailing just what he would do to her if he could. Whoops. The two of them head over to the library and satisfy their hunger among the books (definitely something to cross off your bucket list) and what’s hot about this scene is that the roles are completely turned. Robbie pins Cecelia against the shelves and proves that he’s the one in control now. Someone open a window.

Nymphomaniac (2014)

This film has too many sex scenes, so we’re not going to even try and pin it down to just one. There’s just way too many. Watch it all, we say.

Gone Girl (2014)

The sex scene between Amy and Desi could easily be described as frightening. Or Blood-curdling. Definitely Terrifying. Even Disturbing. Or just plain wrong. Take your pick, but you have to admire the girls’ determination. Never one to leave herself hanging, Amy knows that, in order to (spoiler alert) kill Desi, she must make sure that he is completely out of his senses. What better way to achieve that than to make sure he’s fully satisfied in the bedroom? Of course, this scene involves a lot of blood, and throat-slitting, and Amy’s strange, hollow-eyed stare into the distance, but most importantly, it features Desi’s reaction. The poor bloke may have been killed, but at least he died happy – kind of.
