Ed Sheeran's 'Game Of Thrones' Cameo Sent Twitter Into A Frenzy

*I’ve got a great idea – don’t read this article if you haven’t watched the latest Game Of Thrones episode – it contains SPOILERS*

Now that those bores have gone, let’s get down to business.

Game Of Thrones was finally back on our screens tonight, and it’s safe to say that it didn’t disappoint.

Besides all of the revenge and killing – many of you will have noticed one very familiar face – which happened to belong to everyone’s favourite ginger, Ed Sheeran.

You’d think that Westeros would be a funny place for the Shape Of You singer to hang out, but in the episode Ed ditched his beloved guitar for a suit of armour, playing a Lannister soldier who happens to catch the attention of a passing Arya Stark with his singing.

He sings:

“He rode through the streets of the city / Down from his hill on high / O’er the winds and the steps and the cobbles / He rode to a woman’s sigh / For she was his secret treasure / She was his shame and his bliss / And a chain and a keep are nothing / Compared to a woman’s kiss / For hands of gold are always cold / But a woman’s hands are warm.”

The pint-sized Stark decides to stop and share a brief scene with the pop star, as he tells her his song is “a new one.”

Ed even uploaded a photo of him in character to his Instagram account with the caption: ‘Throwback to the time I was a Lannister.’

On Twitter, fans joked about Ed’s cameo and came up with some interesting ideas for his character:

Back in March at the South by Southwest Festival, co-showrunner David Benioff explained Ed’s cameo during a panel with Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and co-star Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) : “We knew that Maisie was a big fan of Ed Sheeran and for years we’ve been trying to get him on the show so we can surprise Maisie. This year we finally did it.”

I have a feeling that’s the last we’ll be seeing of Ed in Game Of Thrones, but at least he didn’t come to a sticky end like every other character seems to do.
