OkCupid Reveals The Most Popular Month For One Night Stands
Summer 17′ is shaping up to be a good one; great weather, loads of festivals, and apparently, bucket loads of sex. Yep, it’s going to be one to remember alright.
That’s because according to dating site OkCupid, June is the peak time for one-night stands. Of course, more sex can never be a bad thing, but when you’re a certified player like myself, every month is peak one-night st- no I’m just kidding, I get no sex ever.
To determine this nugget of information they asked 18 million of their users: “About how long do you want your next relationship to last?” by month from 2013 to 2016.
Possible answers included:
- One night
- A few months to a year
- Several years
- The rest of my life
I’m not exactly sure you can call ‘one night’ a relationship, nor am I convinced that people get into a committed relationship with the intention of it lasting just a few months, but then again my relationship history is virtually non-existent so who am I to pass comment?
Anyway, from this they somehow worked out that April, May and June are the most popular months for no-strings attached fumbling, with June proving to be the month where most people get down and dirty with a total stranger.
During this time, those looking for a frisk increased by 33% compared to most other months, meaning that June is official the greatest month of the year.
In comparison, the absolute frigid months of January – March see a small 3% rise in those looking for relationships, presumably only until summer comes back around so everyone can go back to fucking their way through the whole population.
Susan Krauss Whitbourne, Ph.D., a professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst says:
“I would say that the increase [of interest in one-night stands] in the summer (assuming in Northern Hemisphere) reflects the warmer weather and perhaps less inhibition as one is wearing fewer clothes.
People are more willing and able to get out of the house when they’re not dealing with snow, rain, and freezing temperatures. The ‘one-night stand’ nature of this behaviour may reflect, as well, fewer inhibitions with those warmer temperatures.”
Essentially, what she’s saying is that just getting out the house and seeing people walk around with little to nothing on makes you more inclined to engage in a bit of hanky panky.
OkCupid Data Scientist, Dale Markowitz thinks the increase in one-night stands during summer is all to do with the influx of foreign people who are looking for a quick fling or holiday romance:
“More students, vacationers, interns and other travellers join OkCupid during this time. Since these members are not necessarily tied to the place where they’re dating, maybe they are less likely to look for a serious commitment.”
That’s right, blame it on the foreigners again – always coming over here and stealing our sex.
So, there you have it people, June’s not going to be here forever, stop wasting time and get to it.
