Lorde Apologises For "Insensitive" Comments About Taylor Swift
20-year-old singer Lorde has come under fire for suggesting that being friends with Taylor Swift is akin to “having a friend with an autoimmune disease.”
In an interview with The Guardian, she discussed “the difficulty of maintaining a friendship with someone as famous as Swift” saying:
“It’s like having a friend with very specific allergies. There are certain places you can’t go together. Certain things you can’t do. There are these different sets of considerations within the friendship. It’s like having a friend with an autoimmune disease.”
People think that she could have picked a slightly more sensitive analogy, with many pointing out that Lorde and Taylor’s mutual friend Selena Gomez actually suffers from a debilitating autoimmune disease – Lupus.

As someone with #CPPS Lorde comparing her friendship with T-Swift as "an autoimmune disease" has really pissed me off.

In response to this criticism, Lorde has apologised on Twitter:
didn’t mention taylor, but regardless, i fucked up & that was really insensitive. i’m sorry 🌹
— Lorde (@lorde) June 20, 2017
(While she claims that she didn’t specifically mention Taylor Swift, The Guardian interview implies that her comments were made while specifically discussing her friendship with the 27-year-old singer).
In any case, people seem pleased that Lorde has so gracefully apologised, and acknowledged her mistake:
Thanks for apologizing girl as the gr8 Hannah Montana said “everybody makes mistakes” glad u acknowledged it
