Jay-Z Discusses Cheating On Beyoncé And 'Becky With The Good Hair' In New Album
Jay-Z definitely has a lot more than 99 problems, and one of them might be his wandering eye.
Considering Jay’s recent honour in the Songwriters Hall of Fame, it’s clear that the hip-hop legend certainly has a knack for putting his feelings into words – especially when a heavy beat is involved.
With this in mind, it makes sense that his latest album, titled 4:44, broke the internet upon its midnight release on his music streaming service – Tidal. Fans all over the globe rushed to renew their subscriptions in order to gain access to what many guessed would be a record filled with diss tracks aplenty. So you can only imagine everyone’s surprise when, throughout the entirety of 36 minutes and 11 seconds, Jay Z spent a majority of his time apologising to his wife.
Don’t get us wrong – Jay did manage to fit in a few burns here and there. He apparently takes a not-so-subtle jibe at rappers Kanye West and Future in the track “Kill Jay Z“, where – according to Complex – he references the 15-minute rant that Kanye did during the Saint Pablo Tour stop in Sacramento, and also throws shade at Future’s neglect of his children:
“I know people backstab you, I felt that too/But this fuck everybody attitude ain’t natural/But you ain’t the same, this ain’t Kumba ‘Ye/But you got hurt because you did cool by ‘Ye/You give him $20 million without blinking/he gave you 20 minutes on stage, fuck what was he thinking?/’Fuck wrong with everybody?’ is what you saying/But if everyone is crazy, you’re the one that’s insane”
“In the future, other niggas playin’ football with your son/You had lost it, 13 bottle of Ace of Spade what it did to Boston”
In reference to Beyoncé, Jay Z mentions his possible infidelities across many tracks, with pointed lines that symbolise his past wrong-doings against Queen B. Here are just a few lines that allude to the cheating that Beyoncé mentioned in ‘Lemonade‘:
- On the track ‘4:44′ – “I apologize, often womanize/Took for my child to be born to see through a woman’s eyes.”
- On the track ‘4:44’ – “And if my children knew, I don’t even know what I would do/If they ain’t look at me the same, I would probably die with all the shame.”
- On the track ‘Family Feud‘ – “Yeah I’ll f–k up a good thing if you let me/Let me alone Becky.”
- On the track ‘Kill Jay Z‘ – “You almost went Eric Benét/Let the baddest girl in the world get away”
In an in-depth analysis of his lyrics, the NY Post explains that when Jay Z mentions Eric Benét in the track Kill Jay Z, he’s referencing the sultry RnB singer who was once married to Halle Berry. Eric Benét and Halle Berry apparently got a divorce due to Eric’s cheating, which prompted many to wonder how on earth anyone could cheat on someone as good-looking as her.
Therefore, when Jay Z says “you almost went Eric Benét“, he admits that he may have had an eye for other women, causing him to almost “let the baddest girl in the world get away“.
Jay-Z’s album was trending on Twitter as soon as it dropped, as fans were eager to express their shock at Jay Z’s subliminal confessions:
Jay z confirmed he cheated but he man'd up,took responsibility and got his woman back. 🤷🏽♀️ behind closed doors like it's supposed to be

There were a few people who were so desperate to hear a direct ‘Kimye’ diss, however, that they made up a few fake lines and floated them online to fool people. One fake line in particular says : “My wife a Queen not a Kardashian”, which many believed to actually be in the album (it wasn’t though).

Of course, there were some who made it their duty to correct the obvious mistake:
Nobody can tell you what track Jayz said "my wife a queen not a kardashian" because he didn't say it lol

With all of that aside, one thing that we can be sure of is that Jay Z is definitely sorry towards Beyoncé about something. Regarding his mention of the name ‘Becky‘ amongst other lines alluding to infidelity, it could just be that Beyoncé’s anger in her previous visual album could, very well, have been directed at him and whatever it was that he supposedly did.
No wonder Solange beat him to a pulp in that elevator …
