Yet Another Nightmarish 'Conjuring' Spin Off Is In The Works
In what will come as good news to those of you who enjoy a jump-scare, Warner Bros. have announced that they’re expanding their horror cinematic universe, and have green-lit yet another movie in The Conjuring franchise.
Called The Crooked Man, it will be about the tall, skinny nightmare that first appeared to the haunted Hodgson family in The Conjuring 2.
If that doesn’t ring any bells, you can remind yourself of him here:
Not someone that we’d want to run into while grabbing a glass of water in the middle of the night…
The Crooked Man character is actually based on an old English nursery rhyme (which naturally, somehow makes him all the scarier…).
“There was a crooked man, and he walked a crooked mile/ He found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile/ He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse/ And they all lived together in a little crooked house.”
There’s already been a movie (of the made for TV variety) based on him. Released in 2016, it saw 12-year-old girl Olivia inadvertently condemn a whole lot of people to die by reciting the nursery rhyme, and summoning the sadistic Crooked Man.
While we don’t know whether the upcoming Warner Bros. movie will follow a similar plot, we’ve been reassured that James Wan (director of The Conjuring movies) has come up with the story, and will be producing.
Newcomer Mike Van Waes is writing the script.
The Crooked Man will actually be the sixth movie in The Conjuring franchise. Alongside The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2, we’ve also had Annabelle, which was about the demonic doll briefly glimpsed in the first Conjuring movie.
There’s also a second Annabelle movie coming out in August.
A prequel called Annabelle: Creation, it will see a doll-maker and his wife invite a nun and a load of orphans to live with them, while they’re grieving the tragic loss of their child. Apparently a bad mistake…
You can watch the trailer for that here:
Then, in 2018, another spin-off will look at the origins of Valak – the demon nun defeated by the Warrens in The Conjuring 2.
Starring The Hateful Eight’s Demián Bichir and American Horror Story’s Taissa Farmiga (actually the sister of Vera Farmiga, who plays Lorraine Warren), it will be about a priest who is sent to Rome to investigate the mysterious death of a nun.
We’re guessing that there’s going to be something pretty hellish at play there, given that we know said nun ends up looking like this:
There’s also rumours that the Warrens will be returning for The Conjuring 3.
Excited? Let us know in the comments!
