Producer Of 'Get Out' Reveals Next Project Will Be A Horror Film About Black Lesbians

The genius producer behind ‘Get Out‘, ‘Split‘ , ‘Insidious’ and ‘The Purge’ has announced that his next project will be a horror film about black lesbians in rural America.

Be still my beating heart.

It might be pretty difficult to follow up from the success of Get Out, but there is absolutely no harm in trying. Jason Blum (the founder of Blumhouse productions) is known for his long record of horror hits, and this time he will be teaming up with acclaimed writer-director Dee Rees for his new project. The collaboration popped up when the two creatives met at Sundance, and the story was born when Dee randomly pitched the idea (based on her own experiences):

“You’ve got me and my wife, two black lesbians, and when we first moved in, we fought every day over all these little things: ‘Why is this over there? Did you move that?’ Maybe it was a ghost. Or maybe it was some other force — like us not wanting to be there or fitting in. Anyway, that’s my horror-movie pitch.”

Of course, Blum was immediately sold.

Dee Rees is the force behind Mudbound, a film that was recently bought by Netflix for $12.5 million. The film stars Carey Mulligan and focuses on a family who find themselves struggling with racism and other issues during World War II.

According to Dee Rees, as soon as Jason told her that he liked her film idea, she replied that they should work together, and shortly afterwards, a deal was made. “I can’t tell you how rare it is that people mean what they say in this business,” Rees said. “He’s just letting me make the best possible version of what I want to make.”

Blum has also expressed his excitement at the prospect of working with Rees. In the NY Times, he gave a detailed account of their first meeting, going on to reveal his response to her suggestion that they work together.

“It almost makes me nervous,” Blum apparently said, “The idea of working with you. But anything you want to do, I’m in. I’m in, I’m in, I’m in.”

Um, after the mind-blowing experience of Get Out, I think I speak for all of us when I say that we’re definitely in too.
