'Five Guys' Beats 'In-N-Out' As America's Favourite Burger Chain
Move aside In-N-Out Burger, there’s a new sheriff in town.
In a recent poll ranking the best burger joints in America, it was East Coast chain, Five Guys, that took top spot, knocking In-N-Out Burger off its perch at the top of the burger game.
The survey was part of Harris Poll’s annual ‘EquiTrend Study’, which ranks a number of businesses and brands, and after surveying more than 100,000 US consumers 15 and older, awarded Five Guys ‘Burger Restaurant Brand of the Year’ for the first time.
West Coast favourite In-N-Out Burger has held the title for the past two years, but was beaten out this time round, coming in second place.
Shake Shack, Wendy’s and Culver’s made up the rest of the top five, with McDonalds, Whataburger and Smashburger also featuring in the top ten. Notable omissions from the list included Burger King, Hardee’s, Jack in the Box and White Castle.
Joan Sinopoli, vice president of brand solutions at The Harris Poll, said:
“The burger brand category has become less fragmented, as regional brands expand and become available in more parts of the country. This is certainly the case with Five Guys, who has shed its ‘small regional player’ designation as it expands its footprint and marketing budget along with its fandom, which is a tremendous contributor to brand equity.”
Over the past few years, Five Guys has grown exponentially, which is reflected in it’s steady climb up the rankings.
The first restaurant opened in Arlington, Virginia in 1986, and by 2001 had extended to the Washington DC area with several locations.
Today there are nearly 1,500 restaurants worldwide, with the restaurant being well-known for its simplicity; burgers, hot dogs, fries and milkshakes are the only items available to order, whilst the simple red and white décor has become synonymous with the brand.
I don’t know about you but after that I could destroy a burger right now.
