Social Media's New Travel Trend Is...Cheeky (Literally)

Share

We all have our insecurities, and mine is my arse. It’s skinny, bony and just generally not very pleasant to look at. With that in mind, I wont be contributing towards the latest travel trend that has been building momentum.

The trend, as you’ve probably gathered by now, basically involves people getting their bum cheeks out in public and taking a photo. According to The Independent the trend started in America and has been slowly spreading ever since. There’s now an Instagram account, Cheeky Exploits, which has amassed over 100,000 followers.

To call is specifically a travel trend seems a bit dubious, some of the photos on there are in front of pretty mundane things like a TV. In fact, if we’re honest with ourselves, this is just a bunch of people mooning, which is something that has been around ever since I can remember. I guess the key difference is that people are now doing it in pretty places and taking photos.

Take a look…

It’s one of those ones that has split opinion. To a lot of people it seems like a harmless and fun idea, whereas many others see it as disrespectful and expect people to offend different cultures and wound up getting arrested.

I guess it’s a judgement call really. It’s probably not wise to stand in front of the Taj Mahal and get your naked arse out, but there are plenty of other places where it isn’t doing any harm. Having said that, some people have rightly been pointing out that if an old man was to do it he’d be arrested instantly. If it’s all about the photo, maybe just do it in places where there’s no people around and thus no chance of causing offence.

This guy’s not a fan.
