Riz Ahmed And James Corden Face Off In A Rap Battle And It Gets Ugly

I think it’s safe to say that James Corden stood no chance against Riz Ahmed, especially since the esteemed actor (also known as ‘Riz MC’) also has a pretty solid career as a rapper.

And he recently played at Coachella, so there is that.

You may know him from Rogue One, or even small screen gems such as HBO’s Girls and The Night Of, but Riz Ahmed recently proved that he’s able to drop some heavy bars during a rap battle against James Corden. Running over seven minutes long, the video shows late-night show host, James Corden and Riz Ahmed holding nothing back with some particularly scathing rhymes. Of course, it was all done in the name of comedy, but some of those jabs may have hit a few sore spots for both participators.

For example, Riz accused Corden of stealing Graham Norton’s act, and then went on to claim that he saw James at Coachella – “You were the big white tent, right?”

The actors’ clever use of the recent Pepsi marketing blunder was stellar – “I wouldn’t stop this war if Kendall Jenner brought out Pepsi’s” – but one line that takes the prize is his merciless stab at Corden’s looks – “You brought up Matt Damon so that makes you a sucker, you look like Matt Damon if he only ate butter.”

You can watch it here:

Reactions to the battle weighed heavily in Riz Ahmed’s favour. “This was savage on a level that can be achieved only by the British” one YouTube user commented, whilst many guessed that Riz wrote his own rhymes. Mostly, everyone was just in complete agreement that the actors’ bars were legendary.

To give James Corden some credit, he did hold his own for a while. The host not only managed to weave in a stealthy United Airlines reference – “This is a blood bath, it’s not a fair fight, it’s like you were overbooked on the United Airlines air flight” – but also came for Riz Ahmed’s acting career – “I know ruining a Star Wars is seen as unlawful, but here’s a Rogue One spoiler: In it, he’s awful.”

Despite this, however, Riz took the crown. After comparing James to Jabba the Hutt, it seemed that there was no way Corden to come back. If this wasn’t enough of a slaughter, there was this iconic line –“He’s like Sean Spicer mixed with a singing Uber driver” that definitely secured his eventual win.

I think it’s safe to say that James Corden may have needed some ice for that burn.
