Marvel's 'Cloak & Dagger' May Be Your New TV Obsession
The first trailer for Marvel’s new show Cloak & Dagger has recently dropped, and it’s already being hailed as the new Pretty Little Liars (with some superhuman tweaks, of course). The 10-episode TV series will be hitting screens via Freeform in 2018 and is set to be the teen-angst superhero romance you never knew you needed.
First of all, for those who haven’t read the comics, you should take the title very literally when it comes to their powers. Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph are the fresh new faces playing the leads in this comic adaptation, and the trailer shows off a chemistry between them that literally produces sparks.
Ty and Tandy are two seemingly ordinary teens facing their own personal struggles. Whilst Tandy grapples with success in ballet, Ty is torn over basketball. Despite being from different walks of life, however, the two instantly connect upon meeting, and go on to ignite an electric romance that leads to them discovering their powers.
Both newbies and fans of the original 80’s comics have expressed a positive response to the trailer. “Hella excited for this!” one comment read, whilst others seemed quite apprehensive at the thought of another Marvel live-action flop (*cough* Iron Fist *cough*).
Admittedly, I was really skeptical of the idea of a YA Cloak and Dagger series on Freeform… but that trailer’s got me hooked. I’m in.

Whilst the mention of Freeform may raise a few eyebrows, the trailer proves promising enough for people to think of tuning in. The series is created by Joe Pokaski, who worked on Tim Kring’s 2006 show Heroes, and if that isn’t incentive enough – the series has also been said to give some serious ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ vibes.
Bring it on, I say.
