It might seem illogical but, as the weather gets hotter, the big movies start to come out… 

Summer blockbuster season is almost upon us, so we’ve picked the ten movies (all released between May – August) that you should be seriously looking forward to…

Alien: Covenant

What’s it about? A sequel to Prometheus (but still a prequel to the original Alien movies), this sees a space crew explore an uncharted, remote planet that turns out to be harbouring a very serious threat….

Who’s in it? Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, James Franco, Danny McBride and Noomi Rapace.

When’s it coming out? 12th May

Baywatch 

What’s it about? In an effort to get more funding, the elite Los Angeles life-guarding team agrees to take on a disgraced Olympic athlete. With his help, they end up uncovering a criminal conspiracy, which they have to work together to bring down.

Who’s in it? Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Priyanka Chopra and Alexandra Daddario.

When’s it coming out? 29th May.

Wonder Woman

What’s it about? A standalone movie for Wonder-Woman (who we met in Batman vs Superman), this is the story of how Amazonian warrior Diana King decided to leave her home, and attempt to use her skills to end World War One.

Who’s in it? Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright and David Thewlis.

When’s it coming out? 2nd June.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

What’s it about? Another attempt at telling Spider-Man’s origin story, this sees the young superhero get mentored by Iron Man as he attempt to balance his school life, with his saving-the-world.

Who’s in it? Tom Holland, Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover and Angourie Rice.

When’s it coming out? 7th July.

Cars 3

What’s it about? Pixar’s latest movie sees Lightning McQueen attempt to prove to a new generation of racers that he’s the best in the world. The trailer sees him have a nasty accident…

Who’s in it? Owen Wilson, Armie Hammer, Kerry Washington and Nathan Fillion.

When’s it coming out? 14th July.

War for the Planet of the Apes

What’s it about? The third prequel to Planet of the Apes (after Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Rise of the Planet of the Apes), this will see both humans and apes suffer heavy losses in a terrible war,

Who’s in it? Woody Harrelson, Judy Greer and Andy Serkis

When’s it coming out? 14th July

Dunkirk

What’s it about? Christopher Nolan’s latest movie is a historical epic about the Dunkirk evacuation in World War 2.

Who’s in it? Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh and Harry Styles

When’s it coming out? 21st July.

Valerian And The City of A Thousand Planets

What’s it about? This is an action/adventure/sci-fi, which apparently sees two special space operatives race to stop some kind of evil force from destroying their universe.

Who’s in it? Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, Rihanna, John Goodman and Ethan Hawke

When’s it coming out? 4th August

Annabelle: Creation 

What’s it about? A prequel to Annabelle (which was a spin-off of The Conjuring), this horror sees a doll-maker and his wife invite a nun and some orphans into their home, after the tragic death of their young daughter.

Who’s in it? Miranda Otto, Stephanie Sigman and Anthony LaPaglia

When’s it coming out? 11th August.

The Dark Tower

What’s it about? Set in an Old-West, post-apocalyptic landscape, this sees a lone gunslinger and an 11-year-old boy team up to find the fabled Dark Tower, and save the world. Their efforts are hampered along the way, by an evil, mysterious sorcerer.

Who’s in it? Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey

When’s it coming out? 28th July.
