Mariah Carey Responds To Her "Car Crash" New Year's Eve Performance
Mariah Carey’s 2017 didn’t get off to the best start.
The iconic singer performed on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve in Times Square, but things didn’t exactly run smoothly. Various technical difficulties meant that Carey was left at a loss vocally, as she struggled to match her lyrics to the music, and couldn’t hit certain notes.
While singing We Belong Together, Mariah gave up completely, but – in an apparent confirmation that she had been lip-synching – the track continued to play.
She eventually told her audience, “It just don’t get any better”, and walked off the stage.
While Mariah’s team have accused the producers of the show of sabotaging the performance – they told TMZ that ABC were aware of technical difficulties, but chose not to fix them in an effort to boost ratings – Mariah herself seems to have seen the funny side.
Responding to the incident, she tweeted:
Shit happens 😩 Have a happy and healthy new year everybody!🎉 Here's to making more headlines in 2017 😂 pic.twitter.com/0Td8se57jr
