Did You Know Ryan Gosling Used To Have A Death-Folk Indie Rock Band?
I was never really a huge fan of Ryan Gosling until my brother made me watch ‘Crazy, Stupid Love’. I’d only seen that one scene of him hanging from a ferris wheel in ‘The Notebook’ and thought he wasn’t my kind of guy. But then, like I say, ‘Crazy, Stupid Love’ happened and now I can’t get enough of the guy.
In fact, around the same time I started liking him, he started making La La Land which earned him a Golden Globe for best actor in a comedy or musical. Coincidence? I think not. Anyway, you’ll probably know that Gosling sings in La La Land but did you know that this wasn’t his first foray into music (and I’m not talking about that ukulele stuff in Blue Valentine). Nor am I talking about him in the 90s Mickey Mouse Club with the likes of Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears. No. I’m talking about Dead Man’s Bones.
Dead Man’s Bones is a concept band who released a self-titled album, created by Gosling and his Hollywood chum, Zach Shields in 2009. They focus mainly on death, to be honest, and while their songs aren’t for everyone, they’re not bad…
They sort of sound like Mumford and Sons mixed with that one Lumineers song that everyone likes and… funerals.
Here’s another of theirs…
If you dig the tunes, I just looked and they are on Apple Music. I can’t say I’ll be downloading any but I like knowing that I can if I want to.
