NASA Reckon We'll Find Alien Life Within 20 Years
Aliens! They’re a thing, apparently, and we’re going to find them sooner rather than later if NASA have anything to say about it.
And they do. In fact they had quite a lot to say about it.
“I believe we are going to have strong indications of life beyond Earth in the next decade, and definitive evidence in the next 10 to 20 years” Said NASA chief scientist Ellen Stofan whilst on a panel in Washington at the 7th April.
“We know where to look, we know how to look, and in most cases we have the technology” She went on to say in scenes reminiscent of Taken.
It all seemed fairly exciting until she went on to say…
“We are not talking about little green men”
But she would say that, wouldn’t she? Are we saying she’s an alien? Of course not… *taps nose*
When you think about it, Aliens (or extra-terrestrial life) don’t seem that unlikely as scientists are forever finding new planets with similar atmospheres to our very own earth and, closer to home, there’s been evidence of subterranean seas on some of the moons of Saturn and Jupiter.
Once the James Webb telescope is launched in 2018, searching for extra-terrestrial life will be far easier but still a bit like searching for a needle in a haystack… or an alien in a universe?
With over 4,000 planets with similar atmospheres to ours, the problem is where to start and since we’re only really looking for microscopic lifeforms it might be a little more Spring Watch than Star Trek.
Only a matter of time or are we barking up the wrong… planet? You tell us in the comments.
