Baby Born With Eight Limbs Is Being Worshipped As A 'Hindu God'
This baby boy, born with four arms and four legs, is attracting huge attention in Dumri-Isri in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand.
Locals are claiming that he is the reincarnation on the Hindu deity Genesha – the most worshipped god – who has an elephant head as well as multiple arms and legs.
The baby is yet to be named, but since his birth the usually quiet and serene village has become something of a pilgrimage destination.
Experts believe that the birth defect is the remains of an underdeveloped conjoined twin.
Kuntalesh Pandey travelled 72 miles across the state from Hazaribagh so they he could get a look at the boy.
He is quoted as saying: “When a friend first sent me a picture I wrote it off as photoshopped but when he confirmed that it is real I came to see the baby straight away.”
Local nurse Sarita Devi, who is caring for the newborn boy, added: “We are taking great care of the baby.”
The current health of the baby’s mother, Ureda Khatun, is unknown.
