Woman Donates Kidney To This Man And Gains A Family In Return

Expect the unexpected. Ashley McIntyre, 25, discovered Danny Robinson, 25, was on dialysis treatment and was in need of an organ donor. She turned out to be the perfect match in more ways than one. Ashley gave him one of her kidneys and the two are now engaged after Danny popped the question on Christmas day.

Ashley first found out about Danny from her mother, Kim, who heard his mother talking about his need for a kidney on the radio. He had been diagnosed at 16 with IgA nephropathy, which occurs when an antibody lodges in the kidneys, causing inflammation that gradually damages kidney function.

Not a single one of Danny’s family members had a kidney that matched and so he spent two years on a waiting list with no success. After the radio show Ashley made contact and as luck would have it the two matched perfectly. (They also both happened to live in Kentucky)

After it was set in stone that Danny would be taking Ashley’s kidney the two started chatting and texting on a regular basis. The operations happened last April, leaving Ashley with one kidney and him with three — his two non-functional ones and hers working beside them.

Before too long the romance started, fast forward to Christmas day and the two are engaged to be married. The two are now expecting a baby to be born in June. We guess if there is one thing they may have realised through all of this is that life is short, and they are definitely grabbing it by the scruff of the neck now.

This isn’t the kind of thing you’d head on down to the bookies for, but if you did then your winnings would have been monumental. Only one percent of kidney donors are actually living for a start.

Danny’s mother saw it coming all along. She was quoted as saying “‘I told her, “You are going to be my daughter-in-law, you just don’t know it yet. ‘I don’t know how to explain it. Something in me told me.’ “

Ashley said ‘I never in a million years imagined this would happen…it was a whirlwind. It’s crazy how it all worked.’

Crazy indeed. You offer out a kidney and you get a family in return, that’s good karma for sure.
