Social Media Responds To Hostage Situation In Sydney With Brilliant New Trend

Ride With You

The shocking events in Sydney, where Martin Place was locked down after an armed man took hostages, have sparked a heart-warming reaction by people on social media.

The Australian PM has spoken how the incident may be ‘politically motivated’ and tension between different religious backgrounds started to surface.

“This is a very disturbing incident. It is profoundly shocking that innocent people should be held hostage by an armed person claiming political motivation. Nevertheless I can say that New South Wales police and other agencies have responded to this incident with great professionalism.”

The #IllRideWithYou hashtag was begun by Tessa Kum, a TV content editor and writer who lives in Sydney.¬†Tessa stated that if anyone feels scared because they wear clothing that identifies their religion, she’d ride with them.¬†

Tessa was inspired to begin the trend having seen this story.

In almost no time at all the hashtag was trending, and people were offering to ride with those that feel unsafe in the current circumstances.

The hostage situation is very disturbing, but it’s great to see doing their best to show solidarity during a tough situation.
