Can You Spot What's 'Different' About This Model?
Calvin Klein’s latest model, Myla Dalbesio, has kicked up a controversial storm after being referred to as ‘plus-size.’ At UK size 14 she is considered too curvy to be a standard size.
‘It’s kind of confusing because I’m a bigger girl,’ Myla, who stands at 5ft 11in, told Elle. ‘I’m not the biggest girl on the market but I’m definitely bigger than all the girls [Calvin Klein] has ever worked with, so that is really intimidating.’
Calvin Klein themselves have never actually used the term plus-size to describe Mylaa. They did tell the New York Times “The Perfectly Fit line was created to celebrate and cater to the needs of different women, and these images are intended to communicate that our new line is more inclusive and available in several silhouettes in an extensive range of sizes.”
So why all the controversy?
It’s all in the use of the term plus-size. It simply doesn’t sit well with some people.
Here is Myla talking about the pressures of the modelling industry, and the addictions that it spawned.
Tell us what you think, is calling Myla plus-size encouraging women to feel bad about themselves?
