Jessica Ennis-Hill has threatened to severe ties with Sheffield United, by declaring she would want her name removed from the club’s Bramall Lane stand if convicted rapist Ched Evans is re-signed.
She joins a growing list of high-profile voices to denounce Sheffield United for allowing Ched Evans begin training to enable his return to fitness.
The football club renamed one of its stands at after the heptathlete following her memorable gold medal win at London 2012.

But Jessica said in a statement “I believe being a role model to young people is a huge honour and those in positions of influence in communities should respect the role they play in young people’s lives and set a good example. If Evans was to be re-signed by the club it would completely contradict these beliefs.”
Evans, 25, has been at the center of public debate since his release from prison last month after serving half of a five-year jail term. He continues to protest his innocence.
Others to question Sheffield United’s decision include Nick Clegg who urged the club to take “think long and hard” before resigning him. TV presenter Charlie Webster, Sixties pop star Dave Berry and Sheffield businesswoman Lindsay Graham have all resigned as patrons of the club since Evans returned to training.
This is Charlie Websters Interview she did on Channel 4 explaining her stance.
