#DudesGreetingDudes Sheds Light On Catcalling In A Whole New Way

The catcalling video not only went viral, it sparked huge debate on what is and isn’t acceptable behaviour for men to women in the street. It inspired Elon James White to question why, if this behaviour is so harmless, don’t men do it with other men?

Thus, the #DudesGreetingDudes hashtag was born, the aim was to shine a light on the hypocrisy of men saying that they’re just “saying hi” when they talk to women on the street.

The hashtag ballooned over the last couple of days. People all over the world have been tweeting the response they would receive from men if they spoke to them in the same way they would speak to women.

Many believe the Tweets highlight the ridiculous way men will hit on strange woman, and also how they can turn vindictive if they don’t get the response they are looking for.

White believes the fact that men don’t do this to other men is proof that this is a gendered attack, whether the men who do it consider it to be one or not

Do you think the hashtag serves it’s purpose? Or do you think that the problem doesn’t really exist?
