What This City Did With An Abandoned Supermarket Is Brilliant.

The average supermarket uses up to almost 3 football fields worth of space, so if the store closes what happens to it? Officials in McAllen, Texas, were faced with this exact problem when their local Walmart shut down. Instead of letting the huge store sit vacant, they transformed it into the largest single-floor public library in America.

The developers went for a modern design that boasts 16 public meeting spaces, 14 public study rooms, 64 computer labs, 10 children’s computer labs, and 2 genealogy computer labs.

There is also a cafe, a used book store, an auditorium, and self check-out stations.

Even the grounds look awesome.

What a brilliant use of an abandoned space.
