Jilted Groom Turns Wedding Day Into Something Amazing
Phil LaBoon was left heartbroken when his wife to be decided at the last minute that she didn’t want to go through with their wedding. Instead of wallowing in self pity, however, Phil turned the planned event into an opportunity to help others.
Phil, 32, turned the post-wedding reception he had already paid for into a fundraiser. The result was thousands of dollars raised for Surgicorps, a charity that benefits sick children in developing countries. Quite simply, what a man!
The event was dubbed LemonAID. A clever play on words on of the old adage about making lemonade when life gives you lemons. Phil hopes to raise at least $50,000 for Surgicorps – the approximate cost of one of their medical missions.
Mr LaBoon explained in a press release: ‘Nothing I experience will ever be equal to the obstacles these kids face each day of their lives, I’m just glad to be in a situation where I can lend a helping hand.
‘Bad things happen,’ he added. ‘But no matter the obstacles you face you have to keep working hard to turn the lemons in your life into lemonade.’
You have to admire his positivity and selflessness during what must have been a very difficult time. Well played Phil LaBoon.
