Hollywood superstar and all round smooth operator George Clooney is to appear in a sketch on Downton Abbey. He will play an American wedding guest at the Crawley pile in scenes for a Text Santa charity special.

The Oceans Eleven and Gravity star has already filmed his cameo for the ITV fundraiser and it is rumoured he will appear alongside Hugh Bonneville and Michelle Dockery.

An ITV spokesperson confirmed Clooney would appear in a sketch, but would not act in a full Christmas episode of the period soap.

Clooney, 53 (he definitely doesn’t look it), is good pals with Lord Crawley actor Bonneville after they worked together on the recent movie The Monuments Men.

For those who can’t hold on any longer, here is the season 5 trailer.
