This Poster Has Been Causing Outrage

A recent government campaign has caused widespread offence by ‘shifting the blame’ onto rape victims if they have been drinking. The posters carry the slogan ‘one in three reported rapes happens when the victim has been drinking’, and a campaign is already gathering in response.

The posters – supported by the NHS and Home Office – are currently being displayed in public places such as GP surgeries, hospitals, and universities.

The debate has come about as the posters could be perceived to be insinuating that rape is the fault of the victim, as opposed to the attacker. Whereas common sense would surely suggest that the rapist is to blame, and to indicate otherwise is disrespectful to victims. Where is the poster that states that ‘one in three men sexually assault vulnerable women’?

Here is the poster that is causing so much controversy.
