Call of Duty Gamer Calls Police On Lad Who Killed Him
A gamer who took losing on Call of Duty a little too hard called the police on his rival.
He made a phone call pretending to be his online rival Rafael Castillo saying that he had just killed his mother and brother. It is believed the prankster tracked his opponents IP address to find out where he lived.
This led to a heavily armed SWAT team swarming on Rafael’s house while he was still playing the game. He didn’t hear what was going on as he was wearing headphones.
70 officers staged a stand off for 20 minutes outside the house. During which time the mother ran out in a panic and the brother arrived thinking there was a fire.
Bizarrely it seemed to be part of another game. ‘Swatting’, where people prank call the police to see how big a response they can get.
“It was probably just one evil little kid. It sucked up a lot of resources, caused traffic problems. It turned out to be a hoax.
In this … bizarre world of Swatting, you get points for the helicopter, for the police cars, for the SWAT team, for the type of entry … It’s very sophisticated. Unfortunately, it’s very dangerous.” – Michael Tagney, Long Beach policer commander
